I’ve been holding off corrupting this site with things that are NOT crochet or knit, but I just can’t do that anymore. It just doesn’t feel like, well, me.
I’ve been doing a lot more than just crochet/knitting, and I want to share what I’ve learned on a larger platform. Sure, Instagram and Facebook are great for quick peeks, but you can’t really learn anything there.
So, what is it that I’ve been doing?
For the past two years, I’ve been drawn back to my first love, jewelry. I’ve never been able to find my “style” out in the real world, and custom jewelry has NOT been in my budget. So, I’ve had to figure it out.
Near the end of Covid, I started playing around with polymer clay. I liked the sculpting aspect of making roses, 3D designs, but didn’t love the fact that it was basically pvc plastic, and not exactly something that was great for the environment. It was also very time-consuming for something that wasn’t “worth” much in the end.
What do I mean by “worth”?
Well, my idea of a worthy item is something I will be able to hand down to my children. Something that lasts. Something that I know I will keep forever.
So … out with the polymer clay … in with copper wire!
A year ago, I decided to get serious. Really serious. I wanted to learn how to wrap real gemstones with 100% copper wire. I didn’t want it to look like a crafty mess of crooked wires. I wanted it to be elegant. I watched a million videos. Read a million blogs. Collected information from various wire wrapping groups on Facebook, and, well, figured out my style on my own.
Now, I’m teaching an in-person class via my local gem club, and I am in my element! Yay!!
I’ve had this website hanging out in the ethers for the past 8 years or so, and I can’t think of a better way to refresh some content, and give my crafty friends another artistic avenue to explore.
